Janie completed an academic research project for the Strategic Studies Institute (SSI) of the U.S. Army War College. She combined her political economy and security studies background to research and write a 50+ page monograph on China’s presence in the Argentine telecommunications industry and its implications for U.S. security.

SSI studies are distributed to key leaders in the U.S. Army and Department of Defense, the military educational system, Congress, the media, other think tanks and defense institutes both in the United States and internationally, as well as major colleges and universities.

In 2005, Janie conducted research and wrote reports for the Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She authored government cables on key economic issues of the day that were disseminated through the Embassy’s world-wide communications network.

Janie worked as a Research Associate for the U.S. Government’s Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) at the National Defense University in Washington D.C. from 2002-2004. At INSS, she conducted research and wrote academic papers related to security issues in the Latin American region. Her experience with INSS culminated with a co-authored chapter published in the book entitled Caribbean Security in the Age of Terror (Ian Randle Publishers, 2004)
